Antoni Wit adds to his extensive Naxos Penderecki discography with Symphony No. 6 ‘Chinese Songs’ – the composer’s last completed work in the genre. Jaroslaw Brek is the featured bass-baritone soloist in one of the last recordings he made before his untimely death in April this year. Wit conducts the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra in this selection of recent works from the 2010s.

“… This is a release of major importance to the Penderecki discography; emphatically recommended.”
“…The playing of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra cannot be faulted, and Antoni Wit’s extensive discography for Naxos is witness to his mastery of contemporary Polish music as it is throughout the repertoire. The sung texts are given in German with an English translation alongside, and Richard Whitehouse provides a descriptive listening guide. The recorded sound is excellent.”

“… Antoni Wit succeeds in a fascinating interpretation. He knows how to make the music very spacious and transparent, and to bring out the characteristic moods of the songs clearly. Jaroslaw Brek … sings them very hauntingly with a well-controlled, warm voice.” *****
